It’s 5 on friday and for all you locals let’s pray for some snow. We can feel it in the air. Check out Felt Soul Media’s great intro to Telluride’s Mountainfilm Festival. Some great imagery!

We here at VOLTAGE want to wish every one a Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays, and sincere thanks and appreciation for all your support. Many and most of you deserve a great deal of thanks for the encouragement and most importantly – the work you’ve sent our way. THANK YOU VERY MUCH from VOLTAGE
We decided to save some paper this year and post the christmas picture online…enjoy : )
Enough political mumbo jumbo – let’s get into the spirit of Halloween! Yes, it’s that favorite time of year again and every night our 3 yr. old asks if he can go Trick or Treating that night. It’s tough explaining to a 3 year old that there is only one night at the end of the month where if you knock on someones door with a mask on – they will give you candy, and that you probably won’t get the same reception on any other night in October. So to get into the spirit of things we often play the Best Halloween disc ever . . . A haunting we will go by the ghastly ones! A full disc of screams and spooky noises all blended with some of the baddest surf guitar ever recorded. I don’t know where I got the disc, it was years ago, but have noticed they’ve since put out another album and have a cryptic video on youtube. Happy Halloween! Check out the typography on this Showbill! Amazing .

2. THE GO! TEAM
If all the political contentions got you down – try a dose of The GO! Team. Positive vibes all the way around. They’ve put out a plethora of great videos over the last couple years!

LadyFlash, The Wrath of Marcie, Milk Crisis, Doing it Right, Doc part 1, Doc part 2,
3. PACKAGE AS PRODUCT
We are working on a number of packaging projects and this unique package/lamp was insipiring. The actual packaging is the lamp. You take out the bulb and cord and re assembe to create your lamp. Pretty Ingenius! Check out the pics – or the designers website for more info : David Gardener
4. VOLTAGE ENDORSEMENT FOR PRESIDENT
5. HAPPY TRICK OR TREATING!

1. THE ZINE MACHINE
I grew up just a year or so behind Rich Jacobs, an internationally known artist and curator whose work is recognized across a variety of mediums from Etnies shoes, to skate decks, LP’s, Zine’s, and Gallery shows. I recenly caught up with Rich when I came across a site for a show he’s curating called “There is Xerox under your Eyelids”. As Rich describes the show : “An art exhibition exploring the realm of 1980’s skate zines and xerox art from a small space in time (about 20 years ago). Featuring the zines and art of the original makers / xerox tweakers / stamp lickers / mail artists, and what they do now.” —Rich Jacobs
Rich is an inspiring artist and always has been to me since high school. The show hits home as a friend and I had a “Ski-Zine” back in the day called GLUCOSE. It was great fun, and creativity ruled as none of us had any pre-concieved ideas of what “good’ design was. Rich tells us the show will be in Denver in September. We’ll keep everyone notified of dates and gallery location.
2. VOLTAGE – ATARI STYLE
If you haven’t noticed our homepage is featuring an atari style 8 bit animation of our logo done by none other than Luke Dimick. Another friend I had a chance to catch up with recently. Luke’s an excellent cartoonist / animator and has recently produced a gripping tale of intrigue and suspense in the vintage 8 bit computer graphic style – called Prison_Beta. As luke describes it – Catastrophic events are set in motion after millions of E.T. Atari video game cartridges become radioactive as a result of being buried near the Trinity nuclear bomb test site. Check out the video here. Thus the request for our own VOLTAGE video game graphic. Check it out here if you missed it on the homepage.
3. LOL CATS
I knew Adam Koford in college, and he’s produced hundreds of comics called the Laugh out Loud cats. Very well done and funny. Take a look on flicker – or watch Adam draw on YouTube. Another great artist and cartoonist.
4. ROCK ON AMERICA
In case you missed the VOLTAGE homepage last week. We paid hommage to this rockin’ country. Click on the image to see the homepage.

We have just finished a showbill for a benefit concert in Austin featuring Billy Joe Shaver.
5. THE VOLTAGE SCOOTER . . .
Makes Getting to the bathroom really fast!

1. BOOGIE BOARDERS EATEN ALIVE AT NEWPORT BEACH
This friday I was in L.A. for a new project and had a chance to visit Newport beach and watch some serious boogie boarders and surfers get eaten alive by some gnarly sets of waves at what they call the “wedge”. They were pretty big and breaking on the beach . . . it was very fun to watch, and I managed to catch one really cool wipeout, or intentional backflip – you decide!

2. GOLF AT SHERWOOD COUNTRY CLUB
Yes, I played a game at sherwood country club – where, as you can see by the swanky locker room door with his name on it, Wayne Gretzky’s a member. It was a boiling hot day, and the course was amazing, but the real treatment was the Locker room. Let’s just say it was nothing like the YMCA’s – closer to the Vail SonnenAlp’s Spa! Look where I landed a VOLTAGE ball! Send more work, we’ll send more golfballs!!

3. ERIC FORSYTH ROCKS THE SOILED DOVE and KBCO!
Eric Forsyth – a local musician who VOLTAGE designed a CD for – played the Soiled Dove last weekend opening for Ryan Shupe and The Rubber Band. Eric put on a killer performance and impressed everyone present with his fresh sounds and finger kung-fu on the guitar. It was a great performance – way to go Eric, and he’s now on the KBCO new artists page. The more you listen, the more his ranking climbs equaling airtime on KBCO. Here’s a clip of the first song of his set FUSE. With a couple cameos by the waitress( sorry ) Ryan Shupe was also excellent, check out some videos of them at the VOLTAGE Youtube page!

4. VOTE FOR VOLTAGE!
Mountain Dew has taken their new beverage to the people with their DEWMOCRACY campaign. What’s great is they’ve picked a great name for one of the new candidates. VOLTAGE! It actually doesn’t taste that great to me . . . as my wife bought me a case and I tried a couple, and the packaging is typical soft drink cheesy, but the site is very cool – let’s you create your own campaigns for the flavor you like, building videos, etc. Because of the name we’re getting the vote out!!
5. COMMON THREADZ ON JOSHSPEAR.COM
Our own boulder county “cool-hunter” Josh Spear featured Common Threadz! A non-profit that donates a school uniform to children in need for every T-shirt it sells, and of which VOLTAGE designed the logo and other marketing pieces. Check it out here.
The Friday Five are five cool things we feel are worth posting this week. Subscribe to the five – if you find it of any value whatsoever . . . This Friday’s Five is mostly about music, and a little summer sport! Check it Out.
1. WEEZER’S RED ALBUM HIT ITUNES
Weezer delivered. Yes, the Red Album’s true to their Arena Rocking Beats and High Voltage Guitars! The albums got some pretty true-to-weezer tunes, and worth the download. You gotta like the variation on a Shaker Hymn called the Greatest Man that ever lived – no actually to quote them : “You don’t like it, you love it!”
2. TIME TO MASTER THE CROQUET MALLETS
Yes, in planning a game of croquet and brushing up on my skills and rules, I came across this informative video from the United States Croquet Association. The Croquet Association has some gripping videos to lure you into the “sport”! Take a look here, and if you feel like you want to dig a little deeper – there is a longer video which should not be missed.
3. DCFC – NARROW STAIRS
After hearing so much about death cab for cuties new album, and it’s success on the charts, and not having really listened to them for awhile, we got Narrow Stairs, and it is really good. A nice album for the studio / early morning design sessions.
4. LOOKOUT FOR THE WOMBATS
Another friendly find this week was the FREE single at itunes by the Wombats! Very arctic monkeyish, and very catchy tune called “Let’s Dance to Joy Division”. If you’re at all a Joy Division fan you’ll like this tune – download it today while it’s still available. If you’re not a huge Joy Division fan this might put the single in perspective.
5. RE-ISSUE OF VOLTAGE GOLF BALLS!
Our first VOLTAGE giveaway has been so popular we’ve re-issued the Black Bolt Golf Balls and Soaring Eagle with Lightning Wings logo golf balls! (that’s the short description of our logo – ask me later for the long version) We’ve given all the first batch away – I guess they really do perform on the links. Let us know if you’ve noticed signifigant performance in your game with these VOLTAGE balls! The only feedback we have had is that most opponents are extremely intimated by the black ball! Send more work, and we’ll send more golfballs.

We come across a lot of cool stuff online throughout the week, so we’ve decided a nice forum to highlight what’s caught our eye lately at VOLTAGE is to post a Friday Five. I mean what else do you want to do Fridays at 5pm – but post cool stuff to your blog. We won’t disclose when we actually waste our valuable work time posting such items, but for all our clients . . .it’s Friday at 5pm – after all our hardwork is done, and we feel after long days and late nights – leaving at 5 on friday shouldn’t be a problem. You can call me if you disagree Mr. Edwards : )
1. THE GOLDEN AGE OF MUSIC VIDEOS
A great video was noticed a while ago, but we have to highlight it as it is done in a big way and heralds back to the days of Thriller, when the BIG artists made BIG productions. Sonny J’s – Hands Free, directed by Evan Creevy . Read the directors comments here – Some great dancing – fun to watch! Check out the lightning in the Background!! VOLTAGE!

2. MEET THE LEAGUE OF EVIL
Very funny ad campaign for Net 10 at www.no-evil.net. Click on the cartoon episodes on the left. Maybe this really hits home because I’m pretty unhappy with my current cell service, and my kids have been watching superhero cartoons circa 1983 – and this nails it on the head! Very funny – good job Droga 5. Eric.
3. FREE FONT FROM MY FONTS
Isn’t it nice when your on a project looking for some new type – and find one that actually fits the project and is free!! We found one this week working on identity for the Center of Space Entreprenuership. It’s free to download here! And our name looks good in it!

4. THE LOW VOLTAGE RIDE
This is how we roll. A great commuter . . . when you live only 7 blocks from the office. The TREK Drift – single gear – loud bell – and ofcourse all Black – in the VOLTAGE style! It’s great fun to ride, and excels in it’s ultrawide GS turns on a downhill. Burns the legs uphill! Good training.
