Personalizing the cosmetics shopping experience

Milani wanted more ways for shoppers and influencers to interact with the brand through reviews, predictive search, targeted promotions, and more. While rebuilding their website, we incorporated their wishlist of 19 other apps and integrations, giving them new features and new ways of connecting with their customers.

THE CONTEXT

 

Milani came to us with a re-design of their website wanting to amp up personalization. Our deep ecomm experience and knowledge of Shopify gave us the toolbox to develop some standout functionality and complex plugin integrations. Areas of focus: homepage, product detail pages, and the product listing pages.

THE CONCEPT

 

We built out many deep integrations across the site, several of which needed to talk to each other. Promo codes for free shipping or free gifts above a certain shopping cart threshold, quizzes to help match customers to products, and pages that promote content from social media influencers all work together to serve up a completely customized shopping experience.

SMART QUIZZES

 

Milani had requested a "Pick your Perfect Shade" quiz that leads to a series of discounted products perfectly matched to a customer's complexion. We took it a step further. Once the customer takes the quiz, smart logic serves up a customized experience of the site, where products always show up in their shade alongside other product suggestions for their complexion.

INFLUENCERS IN THE SPOTLIGHT

 

"Get the Look" pages highlight makeup picks and tricks from social media influencers. Milani doesn't do a lot of advertising, relying instead on a devoted social media following. This feature gives them a way to boost influencers and connect with more makeup devotees.

SALES GONE GLOBAL

 

We integrated Flow IO, a global e-commerce solution, to localize the sales funnel across multiple countries, allowing them to take in greater sales internationally. The integration was deep, involving multiple page templates, email alerts, taxes, and altering the entire shopping cart functionality when their site was visited by an IP address outside the United States – all without having to build a different site for each country.
